You are invited to participate in a ‘Commu nity Building Experiment’ that has the potential to change not only the present but the future. We will be exploring cutting edge psychological me thods to see if it is possible to rebuild the nature of the culture we all live in by giving focus to an issue of conflict.

WHEN: 7:00PM ~ 28t h February “The Speakers Night” and 29th February “The Discussion Ni ght”

WHERE: Tecoma Uniting Church 1566 Burwood Hwy\, Tecoma

WHAT: Topic: “Women &\; Violence”

This is a topic and an issu e that affects everyone\, no matter your age\, gender\, sexual orientation \, physical capacity\, vocational or cultural back ground.

It is a t opic that is rife with contention and injustice. We want to pull back the veil\, shine a light on injury and silence. We want to build community. Co me and be part of that is beginning a conversation.

We want to suppo rt changing a culture from one that avoids conflict and complexity to one that leans in and moves towards preserving diversity while building a deep er form of democracy. The Open Forum format provides the platform to do th is.

The plan is to create a video record of the Speakers’ presenta tions and responses during the Discussion so community members unable to a ttend the event in real time\, may participate later by watching it on You Tube and giving feedback on Facebook.

It will be a chance to unearth and explore the questions we have around some of the fou ndational aspects of Christian faith\; including grappling with questions like\;
  • How are we to respond to other faiths - and are there other ways to God?
  • How are we to approach these ancient scriptures in li ght of life today?
  • Do we need saving ... and if so\, from what and to what?
  • What does a faith engaged in the world look like?

    • There would be an accompanying podcast to listen to during the week (as bonus stimulus)\, but primarily it will a chance to learn more and to hear more from each other.

In our sessions we sing and dance to songs from many spiritu al traditions and cultures\, both joyful and meditative.

Th e dances are based on sacred scripture\, poetry\, chants and traditional l yrics from around the world.  They are part of an international movement dedicated to Peace and Healing through music\, dance\, song\, and communit y as we eat\, dance and pray together.

Just a curious mind and a willingness to join in and learn is all that is required. No previous exp erience in Singing or dancing is necessary I will teach you the words (som e in foreign language)\, melody\, and movements for the Dance.

Most Songs are only one to four lines long and repeated many times\, s o learning is usually quick and easy.  The songs are accompanied by simpl e devotional movements of basic steps and gestures.

Often I will provide some background history about the Song &\; Lyrics and encoura ge inclusive input from participants with knowledge\,  stories and inspir ed insights to contribute to the shared experience as we go.

No spec ial attire is required\, although comfortable\, loose-fitting clothing is best.

‘There are no mistakes  – only variations’.
If you can walk you can dance\, If you can talk you can sing
If you th ink you are going to do it wrong\, do it strong
